C-ITS Release 2.
The stack that ships today.

Most V2X documentation still describes Release 1, the EN 302 6xx family from the early 2010s. The standards a deployment implements today are Release 2, a renumbered set of TS 103 8xx and TS 103 9xx deliverables. This page maps one onto the other, layer by layer.

Where a Release 2 document is a recent early draft, its reference and version are already the current ones, even if the full normative text is still being published; the Release 1 deliverable stays the implementable reference until then.

New in Release 2

Services Release 1
never had.

CPM

TS 103 324

The Collective Perception Message lets a vehicle or roadside unit share what its sensors detect, so a receiver learns about objects it has no line of sight to itself.

VAM

TS 103 300-3

The VRU Awareness Message gives pedestrians and cyclists a voice on the same channel, announcing their position and motion the way a vehicle broadcasts a CAM.

Misbehaviour reporting

TS 103 759

A standard channel for stations to report senders whose messages look wrong, feeding the trust authority that can revoke a compromised certificate.

FAQ

Questions,
answered.

What replaced EN 302 637-2 in Release 2?
EN 302 637-2 is the Release 1 CAM. The current Release 2 cooperative awareness service is TS 103 900, at v2.3.1. The Release 1 document remains published but is superseded for new deployments.
Is a Release 1 message compatible with Release 2 on the air?
For the core services the message on the wire stays compatible; what changes is the ETSI document and version a deployment cites. CAM, DENM and GeoNetworking all moved to new TS 103 8xx and TS 103 9xx numbers in Release 2.
What is genuinely new in C-ITS Release 2?
Two services with no Release 1 equivalent: CPM, the Collective Perception Message (TS 103 324), and VAM, the VRU Awareness Message (TS 103 300-3), plus a standard misbehaviour reporting service (TS 103 759).
Which ETSI document is the current CAM standard?
TS 103 900. GeoNetworking is TS 103 836-4-1, DENM is TS 103 831, and the ITS-G5 access layer is EN 303 797. The EN 302 6xx family is Release 1.
